WINTER STORM WARNINGS ACROSS MUCH OF NORTHERN PENNSYLVANIA AND PARTS OF SOUTHERN PENNSYLVANIA..WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES FOR THE REST OF THE STATE
We continue to follow a storm coming out of the Gulf States and Tennessee Valley that will be tracking northeastward and making its way just inland of the coast. This puts South Central Pennsylvania and North Central Maryland in line for some snow but the tough part of the forecast is the change over to sleet and freezing rain and the timing for such a change. This is going to impact total snow amounts and could make traveling a nightmare if we put a layer of ice over even an inch or so of snow. Weather models show a burst of heavy snow Wednesday morning and then a prolonged period of sleet and freezing rain and then ultimately over to rain.
One of the things about this system that is important is that all of this will happen very fast with snow breaking out before daybreak and a change to freezing rain by mid to late morning so whatever snow we get will come in the first couple of hours. It would need to snow hard to put down anything more than a couple of inches. Areas to the north will snow harder and longer stand a better chance for putting down heavier amounts.
